The storyline continues where it left of, but you will revisit most of the same areas, with only a few new characters.

It includes the first part of the game, and the new one, all on the same disc. WKC II is what White Knight Chronicles was supposed to be. A third part was also planned as a trilogy for WKC, but due to lower sales than expected, WKC II marks the end of the saga. Because of time and other reasons, the game had to be cut to only Part 1 and released sooner, with Part 2 under work.
